If you are planning to visit Bhutan, you need to be aware of the visa regulations that apply to different categories of travellers. Depending on your nationality, purpose of visit, and duration of stay, you may need to obtain a visa in advance or on arrival. Here are some general guidelines on visa regulation in Bhutan:

– Tourist visa: You need to book a tour with a registered tour operator and pay the minimum nightly rate set by the Tourism Council of Bhutan (US$200 – US$250). You also need to have a passport that is valid for at least six months from the date of entry, submit proof of your occupation, and provide your contact information and address. Your visa will be processed online by your tour operator and approved by the Department of Immigration in Thimphu. The visa fee is US$40 per person.

– Diplomatic and official visa: You need to have a diplomatic or official passport and apply for a visa through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade. You also need to submit a forwarding letter from your head of department, a note sheet from your ministry, and a filled up visa application form. The visa will be issued free of charge.

– Visa on arrival: You do not need a visa if you are a national of Bangladesh, Maldives, India, Thailand (holding official or diplomatic passport), or Switzerland (holding official or diplomatic passport). You can get your visa stamped on your passport upon arrival at the Paro International Airport or any other port of entry by immigration authorities.

– Employment, student, business, and dependent visa: You need to obtain a work permit, an approval letter from the relevant agency, and a filled up visa application form. You also need to submit your passport copy, contact information, address, and proof of occupation. The visa fee is Nu. 1,000 per person per year.
